Sonic the Hedgehog lives with his animal friends on South Island and Sonic is constantly falling into adventure. Sonic first encountered the evil scientist who was hell bent on turning every animal into a robot. Sonic pursues the evil scientist in several phases or zones before finally defeating him, and his evil plans. Sonic returns to the South Island following his victory and becomes a normal hedgehog once again.
Once again Sonic the hedgehog comes to the rescue. There are six chaos emeralds, and Sonic must prevent these from being taken. The person who takes them will have the power of ruling the South Island, and Sonic must do everything in his power to stop this act. Sonic is a fast moving hedgehog, and he must use this speed to save his precious South Island from evil. There are a number of obstacles in Sonic’s way including bottomless pits, sharp spikes and other obstacles.
Sonic must collect the scattered rings on each level, to gain an extra life. Rings play the role of providing protection against difficulties and hazards. Sonic can also collect temporary invincibility and shield to provide an additional layer of protection. However, if Sonic falls into the trap he will be crushed or drowned.
